Jones Run Stormwater BMP Retrofit

Project Description
Location: 521 Industrial Park DriveThe goal of the Jones Run Stormwater BMP Retrofit project is to retrofit the basin to address water quality to meet the City’s TMDL requirements per the MS4 permit. The basin will continue to provide flood control measures for large storm events while water quality functions will be added or improved. The accumulated sedimentation within the basin will be dredged.

Assuming there are no major changes to the SLAF program dates, below is the tentative timeline: September 2026 – We will apply for grant funding. January 2027 – We will hear if we have been awarded funding March 2027 – If we are awarded funding, this is likely when the project will begin. 11/21/2025

Eastern Virginia Tree Harvesters are expected to begin the tree clearing within this area between May to July of 2026. Mr. Nick Mrjoian, CF, Forester with Newport News Waterworks, is the City representative for this contract and is working closely with Eddie Harrah, CF, Chief of Natural Assets with Newport News Waterworks. 11/21/2025
