Project Description
The 28th Street Garden Bridge would create new greenspace on the bridge itself and would also facilitate access to planned creative placemaking in Newport News such as the 28th and Washington Market Garden. The Garden Bridge in combination with other projects included in the Newport News Vision Plan would be incredible amenities for all, visitors and residents alike. This would be a major contributor to the renaissance of Newport News creating a thriving, inclusive, resilient community. It would help address past inequalities and would bring economic development and job opportunities to all for shared prosperity.
As part of further and necessary studies of the 28th Street Garden Bridge, the city would also investigate additional connections and improvements for bicyclists and pedestrians throughout the area. Access to local and regional public transit facilities would also be considered. The 28th Street Garden Bridge will not stand alone but will be part of a larger connected infrastructure to be utilized by all.
